Commedia Sexy all’italiana
Commedia Sexy all’italiana was an Italian subgenre of erotic cinema popular during the 1970s. It featured female nudity and slapstick comedy. Edwige Fenech became a leading actress in this genre, starring in films such as “Five Dolls for an August Moon” and “The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh.” These movies became successful commercially, leading to more soft-core Italian films in the early 1970s.
Giallo
Giallo films were Italian thrillers that focused on murder and sexual violence. They often included graphic scenes of eyeball cutting and nipple puncturing. Some classic Giallo movies were “The Mask of Satan” and “The Girl Who Knew Too Much,” directed by Mario Bava. Modern horror films, like the 2018 “Suspiria” remake, drew inspiration from Bava’s technique and gothic horror themes.
